Today, Mrs. Vergauwen's freshmen Honors class had the opportunity to apply real-world truth in regard to their novel study, The Book Thief by visiting the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. They were silent as they heard real-life testimony from Holocaust survivors. Some were moved to tears. At the end of the day, they all took a piece of what they learned home with them.
"When children have the opportunity to apply what they read in the classroom to historical fact, a different kind of learning occurs. Today, these young adults had the opportunity to experience, through historical documentation, what Humanity truly means. We teach our children to "be kind no matter the background of someone who is different from you." Unless we are confronted with the realities of what "separateness" means to those who choose to separate us, there is little understanding. Today, the students asked - out loud - in the middle of the exhibit - WHY? For that reason alone, it was a successful day."
These students will be world changers! 🌎

Update: due to the weather delay cheer applications will be accepted until 10:00 AM tomorrow!

City View Families,
Out of an abundance of caution and due to hazardous/icy road conditions, particularly along the route to and from locations, we are moving both the boys' and girls' basketball playoff games to tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 18th.
Boys' game v. Dublin @Mineral Wells 6 PM
Girls' game v. Coahoma @Stamford 6 PM
Note the earlier tipoff for the boys game.
We do not plan on releasing early at this time since students are currently at school, in heated classrooms, and being served meals. We do not want to send kids home early to an empty or unheated home if at all possible when the school day has already started.
If road conditions continue to deteriorate, we will implement a plan so that staff who live out of town have the option to leave early to get home. However, students will be supervised and classes will continue as normal throughout the day with buses running as normal.
We will continue to monitor the weather and provide updates as necessary.
Dr. Thomas
City View Superintendent

FFA Dress-up Days are here!
Please note tomorrow is SWEATS and slippers. There should still be no pajamas on campus and everything has to be dress code appropriate!

**Band Info**
Hey Parents, Guardians, and Students,
We are going to have a quick parent meeting to prepare for the rest of the calendar year on Monday, March 17th from 5:30-6:30! This meeting is a very general band program meeting in order to make sure everyone is informed regarding all aspects of what we do in grades 5-12 here at City View ISD. The topics we will discuss will be done so in a concise but informative way to lead you to be able to find answers from the website and/or our staff and include:
-5th grade music into 6th grade band transition
-Instrument rentals
-7th/8th grade Jr. High Band Opportunities
-8th-12th grade High School Band Opportunities
-Our Website and Social Media
-Student and Parent Expectations
-Fundraising
-Yearly Overview for all Bands
-Jazz Band/Guard/Extracurricular Performance Opportunities
-Band Handbook/Band Parent Survival Guide
-Band Boosters/Parent Involvement Opportunities
-Band Calendar (This is on the website already and is planned out Tentatively through August 2025)
This will cover a lot of information to be able to give you the tools to keep yourself informed. We will not deep dive into this information since it is quite a bit of it. If a student is even debating joining band, or you are a parent who would like your student to join we highly encourage this meeting for anyone to come meet the staff and band boosters. Thank you, and have a great rest of your week!
Musically yours,
The City View Band Staff
